Frontrunners Hamish Lovemore and Tyron Maher are in a commanding position to be crowned…

Frontrunners Hamish Lovemore and Tyron Maher are in a commanding position to be crowned Berg river Canoe marathon champions this afternoon. The youngsters have started the last stage of 57 kilometres from Zoutkloof to Velddrif with an overall lead of five and a half minutes over second placed Simon van Gysen and Paul Malherbe. Heinrich Schloms and Louw van Riet are in third place. It is only the second time that Lovemore is tackling the gruelling four day ultra race over a distance of 240 kilometres. He made his debut in 2016 when he won the under 18 category and finished 15th overall. It’s his team mate’s third outing on the Berg. (Image:John Hishin/Gameplan Media)
