Gang warfare saw the closure of Strelitzia Primary School in Port Elizabeth’s Northern Areas after concerned parents collected traumatised children following shooting incidents in the street of the school. The school Principal, Clifton Jantjies, says the school does not have a fence to protect learners when rival gangs are shooting at each other in front of the school gate. The school says they have contacted the Department of Education several times to intervene and help erect a wall around the school, but to date have not heard a response from them. Our reporter Jayde-leigh Paulse is outside the school.
