Many heaved a sigh of relief when the Department of Water and Sanitation announced that dam levels reached 103.0% this week.
But despite the improvement and stability, department spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau, said water conservation efforts need to be doubled to inculcate the culture of saving water.
“Currently, the Bon Accord Dam is at 106.6%, slightly down from last week’s 107.2%. During the same period last year, the dam stood at 109.1%.
“The Reitvlei Dam slightly declined as it recorded at 99.7% this week, compared to the last week’s 100.0%,” he said.
Ratau said the Roodeplaat Dam had shown a minor decrease from 100.5% last week to 100.4% this week.
Bronkhorstspruit Dam showed a slight decline but remained above the 100% mark.
