Good rain has fallen in drought stricken parts of the Western Cape, including the Little Karoo, Hex River Valley and Koue Bokkeveld. In the district of Montagu, nearly 50 millimetres were recorded near Baden; 18 mm at Robertson and 38 at Touws River. On the Suikerbossie Guest farm between Ceres and Citrusdal 40 mm were recorded. The Keisie river in Montagu is also running strong. Rain has also started to come down in Oudsthoorn. The South African Weather Service has issued a warning of severe thunderstorms and the possibility of hail and heavy downpours in places over the Central Karoo, Cape Winelands and the Garden Route Districts this afternoon into tonight. Possible flooding is expected in places over the Garden Route District from this afternoon into tomorrow, including the Overberg District overnight. (pics: Keisie River near Baden: C Whitehead)
