HCW / Vetus Schola looking after the community and the passengers of this vehicle …..
While on patrol just after 23h00 in Victoria Road, Response Officer Joey noticed a vehicle driving on the opposite side of the road towards the N2. He drove to catch up with the vehicle then noticed a lady sitting in front of the car with a child on her lap. The vehicle came to a stand still at the N2 & Victoria robots where he grabbed the opportunity to block the vehicle. As he approached the vehicle, he saw that the driver was visibly intoxicated so Joey grabbed the keys and pulled him out. While busy checking inside the vehicle he counted 7 passengers inside a 5 seater vehicle. The driver started running but only got a few steps away as Joey grabbed him and brought him to the ground. He struggled to get him under control and called for backup. Within a few minutes Response Officer Edward arrived to assist with the out of control drunk driver. In the meantime the Control Room called Provincial Traffic and within minutes they were also on scene and the drunk driver was handed over to them. What an excellent Team effort from the backup vehicle, control room & traffic.
