Hijacked vehicles recovered in Verulam crime prevention operations

Verulam SAPS recently dealt with two reported carjacking cases in the area, recently.
In the first case, the victim was at her home when three suspects approached her with firearms and demanded her car keys.

The suspects drove away with her Hyandai I20.
The vehicle was later recovered by police offers patrolling the Amaoti area when they discovered the vehicle abandoned. It was checked for ownership and came up as taken in a carjacking.
In the second case, the victim was also at home when approached by two suspects brandishing firearms.
The suspects robbed him of a number of household items before demanding his vehicle keys and fled in his Hyundai Getz.

Police officers patrolling the Mlaniaini area in the early hours of the morning, noticed a vehicle abandoned.

The vehicle was checked and it came up as taken in a carjacking.
Communications officer of Verulam SAPS, Cpt Henry Kisten, said, “The Crime Prevention Unit was commended for their recovery of the vehicles and conducting patrols in areas considered as crime hot spots. It is thanks to these observant officers that these vehicles have been recovered.”
