The beehives, with a total of more than two million bees, were relocated from the Botanical Gardens and Nelson Mandela University in George to the Gift of the Givers Bee Rehabilitation Centre in Knysna. Chairperson and Founder of the Gift of the Givers, Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman says the “Bee Team” has so far traversed over 600 kilometers, locating and rescuing beehives. “We learnt last year, it was a discovery for us, we learnt that so many bees about 22 million bees lost their lives in the Knysna fire last year and the Gift of the Givers in their support of the remaining bees, are putting new beehives and setting up a new bee research and rehabilitation centre.
