Humanitarian Organisation, Gift of the Givers, has paid tribute to the latest victim of gang violence in the Western Cape, 20 year- old, Ameerodien Noordien, who was shot and killed in Hanover Park on Friday. Noordien was a Gift of the Givers volunteer and worked in the drought-stricken areas of the province. Police Minister Bheki Cele today visited Hanover Park to pay his respects to the family. Cele also announced that members of a new anti-gang unit will be deployed to fight gangsterism on the Cape Flats from November. Gift of the Givers Western Cape Project Manager, Ali Sablay, had this to say about the late Noordien: “Ameerodien has been with us since January 2018 when the Western Cape was hit with the drought. He accompanied us to disaster relief areas. From the 5th of June we’ve been to the Northern Cape and to the Eastern cape to deliver animal feed to farmers.”

  1. That explains the heavy police presence this morning. And here I thought it was in response to the recent protests. Silly me. As for the new anti-gang unit, it remains to be seen.
