A 52-YEAR-OLD man said he has been suffering abuse at the hands of his wife.The latest beating forced him to seek treatment at a local clinic.The man from Tshitungulwane outside Vuwani, in Limpopo said his marriage was never happy. He said the beating he got on Saturday was the final straw.“I was unpacking the groceries I bought when my wife threw a cellphone at me.“My eye was injured, and I received treatment at the local clinic. But I was later referred to Tshilidzini Hospital.”The man said police were reluctant to help him until Munna Ndi Nnyi Men’s Forum chairman Bardwell Mufunwaini intervened.He said after he laid charges his wife was taken to the local trauma centre instead of jail.“I kept quiet for a long time because I was scared of being embarrassed, but now I feel it is time to speak out,” he said.Mufunwaini said: “Many men are being abused by their spouses, but are reluctant to go public. We commend what the man has done. “Many men will follow his example.”Police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said a case of assault was opened and the suspect will appear in court soon.
