FOR eight years, Sophie Sebolai has been filling in forms to get an RDP house, but the 34-year-old mum of three is still waiting. She said when she went to check her status, she was told her application failed. She said RDP houses are being built in her neighbourhood, but she doesn’t know why she is being ignored. Sophie from Suncity near Kwamhlanga in Mpumalanga said the last time she applied for a house was in November but in January, was told her application was unsuccessful. She said she has been living in the area for 14 years. “My efforts to get an RDP house seem to be failing, because every time I apply, they tell me it has failed. “I also need a proper house. Just like everyone else I am tired of living in a shack. We experience all kinds of weather and my children are still very young. “Nobody is working in my family. My husband does odd jobs that only put food on the table and we use child grant money to survive.“We have been struggling to prevent rain from entering through the roof and in winter, we endure a lot of cold and dust. “My neighbours got their RDP houses and I don’t know what the problem is with me,” she said. Thembisile Hani Municipality spokeswoman Simphiwe Mashiyane said Sophie must visit the housing office with her ID so they can check her on the system to find out what the problem could be, or otherwise she will be helped to register for a house.
