Social media’s local culinary queen, Babez Naidoo, who regularly shares posts of her cuisine on Facebook’s popular group, Appetite, shares her recipe for laddus .
In celebration of Diwali, kitchens all around the world will be filled with the aroma of decadent sweet and savory treats.
Be sure to try out this simple recipe!
You will need:
3 cups gram flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 ½ tsp powder egg yellow
2 tbsp butter ghee
1 ½ cups water
1 tsp ground elachi
½ tsp ground nut meg
Coloured almonds for decorating
Oil and butter for deep frying
For the syrup:
3 cups sugar
4 cups water

Method:
Add gram flour, baking powder, colouring, ghee and water to a boil and make a smooth batter. Using a spoon, put batter directly into the hot oil and ghee.
Fry till crisp and drain. Put into a dish. Add coconut, elachi and nutmeg. Mix well. Pour the syrup over and leave to soak. Mould into little balls and roll in coloured almonds.
Make the syrup:
Boil sugar and water until mixture is sticky enough to coat the spoon.
Pour over the syrup and leave to soak. Mould into little ball and roll in coloured almonds.
