It’s been nearly a year since Yoshi the loggerhead turtle was released back into the ocean by the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town.On the 16th of December last year she was released off the coast of Hout Bay and fitted with a satellite tag to be monitored by aquarium staff. She has travelled more than eight thousand kilometres and is swimming and feeding well and has made her way to the Angolan coast. But it’s still a mystery where she comes from. Renee Leeuwner from the two Oceans Aquarium explains more about the turtle: “These turtles spend about the first 25 to 30 years of their lives in the ocean currents, exploring, going feeding and then only once they are sexually matured will they find and partner up and then go and lay their eggs on those beaches where they originally hatched from. So until such time as Yoshi does that we won’t know where she’s from.”
