JOSIAH Nkosi is still waiting for answers: why did his son allegedly hang himself in police cells three years ago? The 58-year-old from Ermelo, Mpumalanga, told Daily Sun he was having sleepless nights over his son Mthobisi’s death, who was only 24, at Lothair Police Station. Josiah said on the day he heard the news, a warrant officer visited his house to ask when he had last spoken to his son. “I told him I had seen him in court but that we didn’t speak.“He then told me my son had killed himself while being held for a sexual harassment case. “What puzzled me was that he was arrested for hijacking and got bail the day before his death.”Josiah suspects foul play. “I asked cops to take me to where he died but they refused, saying I’d be traumatised. “They don’t want to tell us who was on duty that day and how he got a rope.”Ipid spokesman Moses Dlamini said: “Mthobisi committed suicide, and even the post mortem showed that. “If the family believes he was killed, we encourage them to provide us with proof.”
