PUPILS on Wednesday received sanitary towels and underwear made by female jailbirds at Bizzah Makhate Prison in Kroonstad! The 441 pairs of underwear and 372 packs of sanitary towels were donated to pupils from Reaitumela Intermediate School and Bodibeng High School. Correctional Services Minister Michael Masutha said the project was a joint initiative between his department and Old Mutual. “Some officials and police in Kroonstad contributed financially to ensure the success of the project,” said Masutha. He said the purpose of the project was to show offenders how to make their own items. “The purpose was also to restore the dignity of young girls, especially those who often worry about lack of money to buy some of these items.” Reaitumela principal Nnyane Molahloe said: “We’re so happy to receive the donation. “It came at the right time. We really welcome the gesture. “It’s going to boost pupils’ confidence. “We thank the department and stakeholders for changing the lives of our pupils.”
