Lawyers representing the Ford Motor company say there is no evidence that the company was responsible for the death of motorist, Reshall Jimmy. Jimmy died in December 2015 after his Ford Kuga caught alight outside Fairy Knowe Hotel in Wilderness. Presenting his opening remarks in the High Court in Cape Town, Ford legal representative, Andre Bezuidenhout said for more than three years Ford has been subjected to all sorts of innuendos and media speculation when in fact there is no evidence that the car manufacturer was responsible. He says the media had portrayed Ford in a negative light. He says Investigating Officer, Ryan Petersen was reacting to reports of a house on fire and shots being fired when he responded to the scene. Bezuidenhout also says witnesses on the scene also reported a suspected explosion and shots fired. Family legal representative and Afriforum’s Gerrie Nel says they view Ford as a suspect in the matter. Afriforum is acting pro bono on behalf of the Jimmy family.
