Many thanks to all who supported our eWaste and Scrap metal collection this morning. Special thanks to Annetjie for organising and to our CSP for being there for us, as always!
If you didn’t make it, don’t worry – we’ll do this again in 3 months! If you would like to make a financial donation please do! Details here: Www.somersetwestnw.org.za
Why support eWaste collection?
Many electronic items, such as computer monitors, contain hazardous materials such as mercury, cadmium and lead. When these items end up in a landfill the toxic materials can leach into the surrounding environment and poison the groundwater. Moreover, the valuable finite metals that could have been extracted and recycled would also be forever lost. If an unwanted product runs on electricity, requires a battery or an electric cable, it is e-waste.
SWNW also collects scrap metal that can help us to raise much-needed funds – and keeps items like old spades out of the dustbins – discouraging bin-scratching (which is used by criminal elements to scout areas).
