Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Gauteng Community Safety MEC Faith Mazibuko promised to keep an eye on Pretoria central and Sunnyside police stations.
This is after the stations made Makhura’s list of 40 police stations performing poorly mentioned in his state of the province speech.

The premier said more mobile police stations would be added where it could possibly take long to build new stations.
“I have the assurance of the provincial commissioner that SAPS specialised units on priority crimes – gender-based violence, car hijackings, house and business robberies, drugs and farm murders will be strengthened.”
Makhura said school safety was a priority for his office.

“We want our children safe in all schools. We will focus on the worst schools on gangsterism, violence and drugs, and regular raids and searches will be conducted by the SAPS.”
He said plans in the first 12 months were also being made to deploy 10 patrollers per ward in all 508 wards in Gauteng to revive and professionalise CPFs in all police precincts.

“We will also reposition the Take Charge campaign to build a movement of no less than five million people, working hand in hand with the police in the fight against crime.”
Makhura said criminals had nowhere to hide in Gauteng.
“We will find them and put them behind bars.”
