44-YEAR OLD MAN ARRESTED FOR BEING IN POSSESSION OF A STOLEN FIREARM AND CANNABIS IN TABLE VIEW
Members of the Table View Crime Prevention were busy with foot patrols in Doornbach informal settlement in Table View when a strong odour of cannabis was coming from one of the informal dwellings. The door was wide open and the two officers entered the dwelling. A man was asleep, but woke up and noticed the officers. The senior police officer noticed a firearm near the unknown man, and as the suspect wanted to grab the firearm, the officer’s response was immediate, and he managed to get hold of the weapon before the suspect could.
The police officers searched the man and found cannabis in his possession. The suspect could not answer any questions the officer put to him. The serial number of the firearm was tested and it was confirmed as stolen in September 2001 in Lydenburg, Mpumalanga. The suspect was arrested and charged with being in possession of a stolen firearm and possession of an illegal substance.
He will be remanded in custody until his first court appearance at the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 04 September 2018.
Milnerton Cluster Commander, Major General Jordaan has commended the officers for their good work and acting upon their instinct as police members by recovering a dangerous weapon before it could be used on the members.
