Two men, who robbed a metered taxi driver of his vehicle on the night of August 16, 2018, were found guilty of the crime and sentenced to ten years behind bars, last week.

Philani Gumede (33) and Siyabonga Maduna (29) were jailed for carjacking and possession of suspected stolen property.
Provincial police spokeswoman, Cpt Nqobile Gwala said, “On August 16, 2018, the victim picked up two passengers, who were travelling to Waterloo in Verulam. They asked the driver to stop the vehicle so that they could jump off while in Waterloo.”
One of the men then withdrew a firearm and held the driver at gunpoint.
They robbed the driver of the vehicle and sped off.

The next day, both accused were arrested by police in Harrismith.
“They were charged duly and remained in custody until their sentencing,” added Cpt Gwala. The men were also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
