Metrorail says four suspected cable thieves have been arrested in Blackheath. Regional Manager Richard Walker, says incidences of cable theft had reduced drastically in the central area since the deployment of drone surveillance, tactical response teams and forensic investigators. He says this has prompted cable thieves to find alternative hunting grounds. Walker says there’s been a shift to the northern corridor with repeated incidents near Blackheath. He says the foursome is suspected of being behind repeated theft of cables between Blackheath and Melton Rose. The arrests this morning bring the total number of arrests this month to 16. The other twelve arrests were made for various other offences including assault, theft and being in possession of stolen property. (The images supplied by Metrorail are of casings of the cables stolen and the tools used to steal the cables. )
