More than 900 District Six claimants say they will be taking the Minister of Rural Development, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, to court in her personal capacity to be declared in contempt of court. The District Six Working Committee says the Minister has failed to bring restitution to the people of District Six as ordered by the High Court in Cape Town. Chairperson of the Committee, Shahied Ajam says they are also buoyed by last week’s declaratory order of the Randburg Land Claims Court against the state for failing to deliver restitution in more than 20 years. Ajam says he has signed court papers against Nkoane-Mashabane: “We want this minister in court as quickly as possible so that the work can get done, we want this thing done as quickly as possible, we want the people and especially the ellderly citizens of Distirct 6 in their 80’s and 90 years old, we want for those people to at last hopefully have their dignity restored once and for all.”

  1. ANC does not want to give District 6 back. They plan on using it as a tourist hub for their own politicians and foreigners, including RDP houses for those from the EC. Yet, a lot of colored still vote ANC and work for them like Faiez Jacobs.
