More than two-thousand litres of alcohol has been confiscated on beaches and other public spaces in Cape Town since the beginning of December. Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security in the City of Cape Town, JP Smith, says they expect the number of confiscations to rise as the festive season reaches its peak. ” The reality is that there are many people who get away with public drinking. The alcohol confiscations tend to elicit a lot of interest, but also flak from the public as we witnessed last month when we destroyed the previous year’s confiscated alcohol. It would be a welcome change if we could spend as much time debating the behaviour that puts us in this situation in the first place, where people are effectively breaking the law.”

  1. Sell the conviscated alcohol to raise funds to keep the youth away from drugs & gangs. Surely a temp liquor license can be arranged fir this. Why waste it when good can come from it.

  2. Why confiscate….if bottle is sealed whose to say I’m gonna drink it….does the law say u can’t carry alcohol on a beach ? If so then I get it . but if I’m not drinking it….surely u can’t take it away
