GLADYS Pine (46) told Daily Sun that her son was not a troublemaker.She said he left to celebrate his friend’s birthday party and along the way, he got caught up in a fight that cost him his life.Kgalalelo Pine (15) was stabbed to death last month.Gladys, from Kagiso on the West Rand, said Kgalalelo and about 15 of his friends had rented a Quantum minibus for the trip.They were on their way to Key West Mall in Krugersdorp, west of Joburg, when they passed Kagiso Mall and recognised one of their friends being attacked.“The victim was surrounded by a group of people who wanted to harm him,” Gladys said.Two of the boys jumped out of the Quantum and tried to rescue their struggling friend. One of them was Kgalalelo.“A person in the crowd handed a knife to one of the attackers and instructed him to stab them.”Gladys said Kgalalelo was stabbed twice in the shoulder.The friend who had gone with him to intervene in the attack grabbed Kgalalelo and took him back to the taxi. As his friends were trying to stop the bleeding, he died in the minibus.Kgalalelo was declared dead on a arrival by hospital staff.Hazel Motshekgwa, Gladys’ cousin, said Kgalelo and his friends made money cleaning dustbins.“They were rewarding themselves by celebrating their friend’s birthday.”Police spokesman Captain Solomon Sibiya said a boy appeared in a Special Children’s Court, in Kagiso, on 11 March, regarding the matter.
