Provincial police spokeswoman, Cpt Nqobile Gwala said a mother recently left her three-month-old baby girl in the care of a babysitter while she went to work.
“On the evening of August 14, 2019, she found that her baby had a high temperature and was crying uncontrollably. She enquired further and discovered that the babysitter had allegedly assaulted and strangled the baby,” said Cpt Gwala.

The mother reported the incident to Umlazi SAPS and a case of attempted murder was opened for investigation.
The baby was immediately taken to hospital for medical attention and the suspect was arrested.
