The Verulam Athletic Club officially began with its season 2018 and 2019 mileage runs with the well-publicised airport run comprising of 5km, 10km, 12km and 21,1km runs and walks.
The summer time start of 5am, allowed members and the public to enjoy the rest of the day after a fresh start in the morning taking in the view of planes landing and taking off from the King Shaka International Airport.
Blessed with cool conditions tailormade for running, Junior Ronald posted a 1: 12 finish in the 12km ahead of Krish Naidoo in 1: 30, having recently recovered from the South Coast marathon.
Jayce Moodley eased through with Pam Zwane showing steady progress with regular stints in the weekend runs bearing bruit in 1: 43.
Comrades silver medallist, Siyanda Makhanya led team VAC in the 15km run in 1: 05 ahead of Rarula in 1: 07 with Andrew Dlamini and Sthembiso Nzama in 1: 36 and 1: 50 respectively, while walkers, Beena Maharaj and Ronnie Rangasamy completed the 15km challenge in 2: 20.

The popular 10km run and walk was led by junior female runner, Sandra Nkiwane in 1: 18, showing great improvement with every run.
Raeesa Bayat, also returning from the South Coast marathon eased in 1: 23, with Johnny Karanjoo putting his injury behind him and posting a steady 1: 29.
Anand Naicker, junior, Daniel Singh and Zama Ngcobo came through in 1: 50, while Krishnee Naidoo and Dolly Moodley completed the 10km in 2: 12.
A reminder to membership that the first VAC challenge of 5km, 10km, 15km and 21.1km for the new season commences this coming Sunday at 5am.
Tickets for the annual VAC awards banquet are also now available. The club’s annual brochure adverts must be submitted by this weekend.
Gaterite Challenge 2019 planning has commenced and members of public and organisations who are interested are welcome to contact the club for a variety of partnerships.
