A VERY ill Elizabeth Matsane said she asked nurses to take her to the toilet, but they apparently refused. The 67-year-old crawled to the toilet, but when she came back the nurses allegedly wouldn’t help her get onto the bed. Elizabeth said she spent last Tuesday sleeping on the floor.Gogo’s son Sicelo Sengwayo (31) from Kabokweni, Mpumalanga, said nurses at the Themba Hospital allegedly told her to get back onto the bed the same way she got off the bed.“When one of my cousins visited her the next day, she found her sleeping on the floor, with no blankets. “The nurses told her it was not their job to take people to the toilet. “We rely on public hospitals because we can’t afford private hospitals. “We may not be the first to be dissatisfied, but the attitude of the nurses doesn’t change.”Sicelo said they notified hospital management, and he believed they would attend to it.“This hospital has a serious problem. The nurses don’t care about their work. They have a habit of treating people badly, and this must end.” Mpumalanga health spokesman Dumisani Malamule said the matter was brought to hospital management’s attention. “We are dealing with the matter,” he said. “Based on the information we have, four nurses are going to be charged for misconduct.”
