On Thursday evening, 3 December 2015 a white Subaru vehicle was reported stolen from the Steynsrust area. This information was shared with all HCW/Vetus Schola vehicles who were requested to be on the lookout for this stolen vehicle.
The vehicle was spotted in the early hours at 02h15 by HCW/Vetus Schola Armed Response Officer Tiaan who immediately called in the information to the control room. Tactical Response Team Member Esme immediately joined in to supply back up. At this point in time shift commander Nortje was busy at another incident with SAPS member, Constable Louw when he received the information over the radio. Nortje informed Constable Louw of the situation and he immediately jumped into his SAPS vehicle a told Nortje to follow him.
They gave chase down Main Road Somerset West with the other HCW/Vetus Schola vehicles that were already assisting in the chase. The suspect veered into Church Street in an attempt to evade the pursuers but Officer Nortje managed to overtake the vehicle and force it to a standstill. When he tried to perform an arrest, the driver pulled away at speed and tried to run down Shift Commander Nortje. The pursuit continued eventually resulting in the chasing vehicles including Constable Louw forcing the vehicle to stop at a Church wall. The suspect jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. SAPS member, Constable Louw and HCW/Vetus Shift commander Nortje pursued him on foot jumping over residential property walls and eventually apprehended him in Oak Street, where he tried to conceal himself behind some shrubbery.
Thanks to this wonderful effort in true partnership policing style by SAPS member Constable Louw and the efforts of the HCW/Vetus Schola teams, the suspect was arrested and the stolen vehicle recovered.
WELL DONE TO ALL ESPECIALLY CONSTABEL LOUW WHO WAS PROMOTED TO SERGEANT AT THE END OF HIS SHIFT.
