THE parents of a 12-year-old boy who was hurt at school are angry. The boy lost his right eye, and now his parents want his eye back.He lost the eye after allegedly being attacked by another boy on 18 September. The parents claimed the teachers didn’t tell them about the incident. The grade five pupil at a school in Mshadza, outside Hazyview in Mpumalanga, told Daily Sun a boy accused him of standing on his toes while he was drinking water. He said the boy then threw a stone, which hit his right eye.“I reported the matter to the teachers. They called the boy but he denied throwing a stone at me.” He said he was taken to the clinic by a family friend. The boy’s mum said they received a call to say their son had been taken to the clinic. He was later transferred to Themba Hospital in Mbombela, where his eye was removed. The mum said the teachers should have called them. “They didn’t want to take responsibility.“My son’s education has been interrupted by the other boy. “That child must be punished. He doesn’t deserve to be around other kids.” The boy’s aunt said the school was not taking them seriously.“They think we are joking when we say we want his eye back.” The family didn’t report the matter to the cops. They were expected to meet the school management team yesterday. Jasper Zwane, spokesman for the Mpumalanga Education Department, said they were not aware of the matter. “The department will request a full report from the district.”
