A proud Philani Shangase of the Phoenix Villagers Athletic Club.
The 25th running of ‘The People’s Race’ from the iconic venue FNB Stadium in Soweto took place, recently.
The event comprised of a 42.2km standard marathon, 21km half marathon and 10km.
Among the 30, 000 participants were Philani Shangase of Phoenix Villagers Athletic Club (PVAC) clocking in a very good time of 3: 38: 05 in the 42, 2km standard marathon and Ananthan Chetty coming in at 5: 8: 35.
Finishing the 21km half marathon was Bongiwe Ndlovu in 3: 15: 2.
PVAC management are proud of their athletes and extend their congratulations.

The runners pounded the streets of Soweto and ran past historic sites such as Vilakazi Street‚ which houses the homes of Nobel Prize winners, Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.
They also went past the biggest hospital Chris Baragwanath‚ the Hector Pieterson Museum and the Morris Isaacson High.
Ethiopian Sintayehu Legese Yinesu was the first runner to cross the finish line of the 25th edition of the race in an impressive time of 2:19:10‚ scooping the men’s title and the R250,000 prize money which comes with it.
But it was South African sweetheart Irvette Van Zyl‚ who stole the show‚ winning the women’s 42.2km marathon for the second year running and setting a new course record of 2: 33: 43.
She too walked away a quarter of a million rands richer.
All entrants received a free high quality technical T-Shirt with their entry as well as a commemorative medal.
