KULANI Mathebula left for school as usual yesterday but he never arrived. The 19-year-old pupil at Mondeor High School in Joburg was stabbed to death by heartless thugs and no one knows why.As cops removed his body from the scene, his mum Dumi Chauke (36) could be heard screaming and crying. “He was my one and only child. Why did they have to take him from me?” she said.Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said these kinds of situations were not what he signed up for. “I’m supposed to be issuing award certificates but it looks like these days I’m issuing death certificates.“This saddens me because this problem is growing. It’s moving from one school to the next.”Kulani’s uncle Themba (39) said the family was shocked. “We never thought this would happen. “He had a bright future ahead of him,” he said. Lesufi told the SunTeam that police were looking at footage of the incident, and said pupils were involved in some of it. He said if they were involved, they would face the full might of the law. “They are not pupils if they know how to hold a knife. A pupil knows how to hold a pen.”Speaking at the school, Lesufi warned pupils not to even think of getting revenge.A photo of Kulani with candles and flowers around it was then placed at the school. ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said when paramedics arrived on the scene, Kulani had a stab wound in his chest and showed no signs of life. He was declared dead at the scene.A Mondeor High School pupil, Khulani Mathebula, 19, was robbed of his phone and stabbed to death on his way to school this morning in Mondeor, south of Johannesburg.
