The firearm and ammunition recovered by Verulam SAPS.
The Crime Prevention Unit, under the command of W/O Muniappen, were performing crime prevention duties in the Verulam area when they noticed a white VW Polo.
The police officers stopped the vehicle and upon searching the driver, found him in possession of a firearm and a magazine which contained eight rounds of ammunition.

The serial number of the firearm was checked and it was discovered that the firearm was reported stolen in the Point area.
W/O Muniappen also checked the registration number of the vehicle and the vehicle was reported hijacked in the Behekithemba area.
The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and for being in possession of stolen property.

Cpt Henry Kisten, communications officer of Verulam SAPS, said, “The station commander, Brigadier Dludla commended W/O Muniappen and his team for the arrest and recoveries and is also urging the community to work with the police, especially with the recovery of illegal firearms since it is the biggest contributor to violent crime.”
