REGULATIONS RUINING BUSINESS FOR LIQUOR TRADERS!

LIQUOR traders say regulations are ruining their businesses.On Thursday they marched to Newtown, Joburg, to hand over a memorandum of demands to the Gauteng Liquor Board. They want the board to remove the excessive regulations affecting their businesses.The liquor traders also want the board to address permit problems and harsh rezoning by-laws.Group leader Monde Dladla said municipal rezoning put many liquor traders out of business.“We can’t sell liquor in residential areas, yet supermarkets are given licences,” said Dladla.He said they want their permits to be turned into licences.“When a permit owner dies, his descendants are barred from using the permit to keep the business running,” he said.Tshwane Concerned Liquor Traders representative Oupa Mthombeni said their permits expire in October.“If they are not converted, most of us will be out of business,” said Mthombeni.Gauteng Liquor Board head Raymond Martin said the liquor traders’ grievances will be addressed.He said: “We are going to convene an urgent meeting with liquor traders and the municipality.”
