Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane has cited lack of funding as…

Rural Development and Land Reform Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane has cited lack of funding as the reason for the delays in implementing the restitution programme in District Six in Cape Town. She’s told the High Court that her department has an annual budget of 10-billion-rand. Nkoana-Mashabane says it can only contribute just over 300-million rand towards the project which experts estimate could cost 11-billion-rand. The court ordered her to appear today to explain why her department had stalled on plans to redevelop open land in the Cape Town CBD. The restitution process involves three-thousand District Six claimants.

  1. They too busy giving free homes to people in township, just so by the way, did not own any land here to start off with.

  2. Maybe if politicians were not paid so much to be in parliament and with so many costly perks, we would have more money for those that truly deserve s it

  3. So they can start building with the 300million fir this fiscal years budget and continue the next year. If they did not drag their feet, all the outstanding claims could have been settled by now…

  4. Maybe if u stop using contractors that inflate their prices and are ur friends, who benefit, u would be able to build a couple of good houses. Would really love to know why they can only spend a small fraction of their budget, where does the rest go? To staff? Who anyway don’t work
