Cape Town police say additional members will be deployed to maintain law and order during an unlawful total shutdown on the Cape Flats tomorrow. Various communities have been urged by activists to protest against rising poverty, crime and unemployment levels. The City of Cape Town says the action is illegal. The shutdown is due to start at 5 O’Clock and last until 10 O’Clock. Latest police crime statistics show that Nyanga on the Cape Flats has the highest murder rate in the contry, with over 300 murders committed in the area between April last year and March this year. Over 800 gang-related murders were committed for the same period in the Western Cape.
