SAFA CEO Russel Paul says they cannot be blamed for the dispute between the SABC and the football association. This follows an announcement by the public broadcaster that it will not be broadcasting any national team matches, including the next two Bafana Bafana Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at home. The SABC says Safa was asking too much for the broadcast rights. Paul says the offer the public broadcaster put on the table is insulting. “The SABC made us an insulting offer of 10 million rand for all our matches. Whereas in the past, for the last contract, they paid us a 110 million rand. So the notion that the SABC is pushing out to say that SAFA want ten times more is incorrect and misleading to the public. The reality of the matter is that SABC is offering eleven times less than what they paid us before”, says Paul.
