SAPS Somerset West and Partners in Policing, HCW were on the way to carry out an operation on the local train route to address commuters being robbed whilst on their way home. Upon arriving at Somerset station the team was informed that there was a complainant at SAPS who had been robbed by two males and they had run off towards the station.
The team under the command and control of Captain Riffel spread out around the area and started questioning the locals. A group of youngsters said they had just seen the suspects going down Spyker street. The SAPS and HCW members headed that way and spotted the suspects entering the cemetery.
Capt. Riffel called to a vehicle unit in Victoria Rd and gave their description. This unit spotted the one suspect and detained him. The other suspect had gone to ground inside the cemetery area.
All members started searching and the 2nd suspect was quickly apprehended.
All the stolen items were recovered.
Whilst processing the suspects back at the police station it was discovered that they had been released from Pollsmoor prison 8 hours earlier after serving time for robbery.
Guess some people never learn.
Well done to Captain Riffel and his SAPS team for textbook policing as well as partners in policing HCW and the local youngsters who did a great job.
