Fruit, veg seller nabbed for alleged drug dealing
A fruit and vegetable seller in Belgravia was arrested on Monday for alleged drug dealing.
Metro police officers on patrol in Belgravia stopped at his fruit and vegetable stand when they noticed that the suspect seemed nervous, the City of Cape Town said. The officers searched him as well as the stand, after he claimed it was his.
The search revealed 38 bankies, half a bag and a full bag of compressed dagga, after which the suspect admitted he was selling the drugs. He was detained at Athlone police station for further investigation.
In Grassy Park, a 15-year-old boy with suspected gang ties has been arrested after he was found with an unlicensed firearm in his possession, the SABC reported.
Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the boy was also found with 11 live rounds of ammunition and a knife. Van Wyk says the boy was apprehended following a stop-and-search operation by the Grassy Park Crime Intelligence Unit. He appeared in court on Monday
