ANGRY pupils want a security guard at their school to be investigated. The pupils from Mpolweni Secondary School in Pietermaritzburg, KZN Midlands, claim the guard kept some kids’ knives and dagga in his house and even smoked with them. “He’s friends with pupils who carry knives and dagga at school. He keeps these things for them in his house. “They later collect their knives from him and they smoke dagga with him,” claimed a pupil. The pupils called on the education department to do something about the matter. Principal Phila Manyende said: “The allegations against our security guard are new to us, but we will investigate them.“I know about the stabbing incident. The kids who stabbed one another were not in any of the classrooms when the search was conducted.”KZN cops spokesman Lieutenant-colonel Thulani Zwane said an assault case was opened at New Hanover cop shop. He said a suspect (19) was bust and appeared in court on Thursday. “He has been kept in jail until his next court appearance.”Kwazi Mthethwa, a spokesman for KZN Education Department, said: “As far as we know, cops do random school searches. We don’t want to speculate about the issue of drugs and weapons being hidden by a guard. “If pupils have information about how the guard is handling things at school, they must give it to the cops.”
