The cost of a cochlear implant varies between R248, 000and R330, 000 depending on the system.
“This excludes hospital and surgery fees, programming and rehabilitation costs which are absolutely necessary for the success of these operations. Due to the high cost and limited medical insurance coverage few can afford this life changing device”, said Erica Basson, manager of the Foundation for Children with Hearing Loss in Southern Africa.
