The violent protests that broke out at Lwandle and Nomzamo near Somerset West continued throughout the night. The situation remains volatile as community leaders are trying to restore calm.
At least two liquor stores and a supermarket were looted and gutted as protesters went on the rampage. The violence broke out after the Red Ants started breaking down structures that were set up illegally.
The land is earmarked for the development of a mall.
