To round off 2018, SKISA Pesco Karate Club held its annual awards function to honour and celebrate the karetekas of Pesco Karate Club.
Preshan Govender and Beanca Govender took the sportsman and sportswoman awards for 2018.
The awards function, held at the Simunye Church hall, was well attended by karatekas, parents, well-wishers and special guests. Karatekas received awards in various categories.
Pesco Karate Club was established 28 years ago in Phoenix by Sensei Raj Govender. The club has since grown from strength to strength, keeping children off the streets and away from crime.

Pesco Karate Club has produced some of the finest karate students in the Phoenix area who have gone on to find success in education and employment.
Sportswoman of the year, Beanca Govender, said that karate has become a vital part of her life.
“Karate teaches discipline and it is that discipline that my students have carried into all walks of their life,” said Sensei Govender.
