DRUG dealer Patrick Thwala (48) was jailed by the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Tuesday for dealing in dagga valued at about R2,6 million.Hawks spokeswoman Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said Thwala was arrested last Friday in Buccleuch, north of Joburg.“Thwala, who was with a 39-year-old accomplice, was arrested following an intelligence-driven operation by the Hawks’ narcotics enforcement bureau, crime intelligence: counter narcotics, and border police after it emerged they were transporting a large quantity of dagga.”Mulamu said 532,5kg of dagga, which originated from Eswatini, was recovered from a car and the house where the accused were arrested. “Thwala pleaded guilty to possession and dealing in dagga while his accomplice was acquitted following the admission. “The court sentenced Thwala to four and eight years concurrent prison terms for both charges. “The sentence will be suspended for five years, with an option of a R20 000 fine provided he’s not found guilty of a similar offence during the period of suspension.”
