As our community tries to develop into a functional one, over the years there has been a trend were drugs have become very popular among the youth and even children has young as seven years old are experimenting with these substances.
A few months ago, children at the Coronationville Library were asked if anyone has tried to smoke dagga and to the facilitators surprise the children identified about five of their friends who were present to have at least tried out dagga once in their lives.
These were children under the ages of ten years old.

Drugs are easily accessible in our area and although the police tries to arrest drug dealers, in some parts of our community drug dealers are protected because they are the bread winners in their families, however justice needs to take its place.
Sophiatown police officers recently worked with other units to arrest two men for possession of drugs.
According to communications officer, Jerbes de Bruyn, the police received information about a wanted suspect at an address in Westbury and that there were possible drugs there.
“Members of the police of different units followed up on the information and searched the house and found 10 mandrax pills and 126 packets of dagga in a zozo in the back yard.
“Two suspects were arrested and a case of possession of drugs was opened. One of the suspects was also linked with an attempted murder case at Sophiatown SAPS,” said de Bruyn.
To report any criminal activity, call the emergency number 10111 or Crime stop on 086 0010 111 or alternatively sms Crime Line on 32211.
