South Africans are getting the real thing this year with the legendary vocal group, Boney M, performing their classic Christmas hits live on home soil over the festive period. Since the eighties with the release of the Euro / Caribbean group’s popular Christmas album, Boney M has become synonymous in the country with this time of the year. Their Christmas chart topper, “Mary’s Boy Child / Oh My Lord”, is 40 years old this year and is sure to be on the play list of the concerts in Cape Town, Pretoria and Port Elizabeth between the 23rd and 26th of December. Liz Mitchell, her three co-singers and 12- member orchestra have, according to the promoter, been informed long in advance that they should not expect a white Christmas in South Africa when they begin touring from this weekend.
