Taxi associations WATA and NANDUWE met with the Gauteng Transport MEC today to discuss the issue of taxi violence.
Earlier yesterday, six people were shot and wounded and taxis were burnt as a result of taxi rivalry in Dube, Soweto. MEC Ismail Vadi announced that the ranks and routes used by these two associations would be closed for a period of 90 days. Police have been stationed in Dube and surrounding areas to ensure safety and minimize more violence.
