Stranded motorist injured in Verulam drive-by shooting

A manhunt is underway for a suspect, who allegedly opened fire on a stranded motorist in a drive-by shooting in the Verulam vicinity, over the weekend.
The unknown suspect was reportedly driving a white Ford Ranger.

He opened fire on a 34-year-old motorist, who was fixing his vehicle on the roadside on Buxon Street.
“The victim sustained a gunshot wound and was found bleeding profusely and lying outside his white Opel Corsa,” a report issued by Reaction Unit South Africa indicated.

A spent 9mm cartridge was found nearby. Blood was found at the front of the vehicle and at the driver’s door.
Reaction officers arrived at the scene at about 6:15pm and conducted an extensive search for the armed suspect.

The victim, who is employed as a counsellor at a government hospital, was stabilised at the scene and transported to a medical facility for further treatment.
The motive for the shooting has not been established at this stage.
