.Striking officers set another cop shop on fire’ SCENE: The Ravensmead Police Station was allegedly set ablaze by angry striking cops SCENE: The Ravensmead Police Station was allegedly set ablaze by angry striking cops Monique Duval | April 23, 2019 Another police station came under attack on Sunday after petrol bombs were allegedly thrown at the building. According to a source, striking cops who are upset with Police Minister, Bheki Cele, about promotions in the force are allegedly behind the arson attacks which resulted in two fires at cop shops in just one week. In the latest incident at the Ravensmead Police Station, a large amount of dockets went up in flames in the detectives’ offices in the early hours of Sunday morning. “It appears the striking officers are behind it. The fire was started by petrol bombs that were thrown at the building where the detectives and the dockets are kept. I know that dockets were destroyed by the fire,” says the source. City Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, says 12 firefighters responded at 1.18am. SCENE: The Ravensmead Police Station was allegedly set ablaze by angry striking cops “The fire was localised to a room at the rear of the police station and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined and the fire was extinguished at 2.16am.” Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut, says police are now investigating an arson case. “Damage was caused to the building. No one has been arrested as yet and the police station is operational.” On Tuesday a fire at the administration offices of the Bellville Police Station was also reported and Traut says there have been no arrests. Nokuthula Ndzongana, spokesperson for the SA Police and Allied Workers Union (Sapawu) says they are not behind the fires. “I can assure you that Sapawu has got nothing to do with the burning of the police station. “Sapawu will soon be a majority union. Our rivals will try by all means to drag our name into disrepute.” firstname.lastname@example.org
