Student body, COSAS has expressed shock following reports that black learners who’ve refused to plait their hair at Malibu High School in Blue Downs in Cape Town are now facing disciplinary action. COSAS has labelled the move by the school’s principal as racist. The students body is calling for the removal of the principal and for parents and teachers to support their call. Meanwhile, the Western Cape Education department says it is aware of the reports and is investigating.

  1. My grandson attended Malibu High School and I have so much respect and gratitude for the influence this school and its educators had on his (and many others) life.
Please sort this issue out and stay focused.

  2. These learners must get their priorities straight. Are they there for education or hairstyles? They must focus on their education rather than their hair. What has become of our society. I fully support my colleagues at Malibu high and hope the department will too. My son is also a learner there. They signed a code of conduct and must adhere to it. Stop the racist attacks on coloured teachers!

  3. My high school years ,platting hair than was compulsory and it was called “code of conduct” Inspection every Monday Morning . Today of peer pressure we feel the need of a good Brazilian weave witch our parents can’t afford. Our yesterday has mould us in Today’s leaders…As a mom my heart goes out to our Educators🙏🏾

  4. I hv two daughters who are in one of these schools here in Cape Twn .I took them to this school after i read and signed the rules of the school, i like their discipline , code of conduct and their rules, but probrem with us (blacks) we always want to blame everything on racism .i would understand if were not informed abt these rules / codes of conduct , bt we have copies of them in our homes .

  5. When I went to school I had two long silky plaits with beautiful Red Ribbon bows on each one. We had a straw hat that we wore every day. It was neat and tidy. 🌷🌹🌺
