Suspected hijacker impersonates police officer

Four occupants of a red VW Polo TSI with an unknown registration are being sought after they attempted to hijack two vehicles on Gulshan Drive in Riyadh, Verulam on Wednesday.
According to police reports, a man was talking to a friend, each in their own Hyundai i10, at the roadside when the VW Polo drove up to them.

Four suspects exited the vehicle and drew firearms. One suspect was dressed in a police uniform.
The victims were instructed to hand over the keys to two Hyundai i10’s before they were forced to lie on the ground.
The suspects then got into the vehicles but failed to reverse out of the driveway due to both vehicles having automatic transmissions.

They then abandoned the vehicles and fled the scene. The victims were not injured.
Security officers conducted a search for the armed men, however, no arrests have yet been made.
Cpt Henry Kisten, communications officer of Verulam SAPS, urges the community to be vigilant during this festive season as criminals have been known to disguise themselves as police officials or municipal workers to facilitate their crimes.
