Swift police action leads to the arrest of three #CIT robbers
PRETORIA – The National Commissioner of Police, General Khehla John Sitole has praised a multi-disciplinary SAPS team in Mamelodi West for the swift arrest of three Cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers and the recovery of money and firearms.
Earlier today at about 11:45 two armed men robbed two security guards off money boxes containing an undisclosed amount of cash. These suspects confronted the guards as they were approaching their vehicle outside a shopping mall in Mamelodi West and threatened them with handguns before fleeing with the money boxes.
However, the suspects get-away was short-lived when almost instantaneously the Mamelodi Intervention Task team supported by the local K9 unit and station members responded.
The task team intercepted the first two suspects a few streets away from the mall and were thereafter led to a third suspect and all have been arrested.
Further investigations led the team to three different houses where two pistols were found in one house, the money boxes in a second house and the get-away car at a third house. The serial numbers on the pistols were filed off, the money boxes were tampered with and the recovered Hyundai sedan was reported hi-jacked in Silverton in April this year.
Furthermore, the houses where these incriminating items were found does not belong to any of the suspects; the owners of those houses are now also subjects of criminal investigations.
“I want to applaud all members for the speed with which they acted as well as their dedication to this case”, said General Sitole”
“The collective approach and the positive attitude displayed by our members is what is encouraged through the Turn-around Vision of the South African Police Service “Patriotic Selflessness”, added General Sitole. #TrioCrimes
